The River Festival Journal
The Journey to The River Festival:
As part of the River Festival on 16 September 2023, Artist Di Crispin will be on hand to present an exclusive collection of her work on the theme of "Landscapes on Rivers".
As the River Festival approaches, the vegetables and fruit we use for the Five Elements Fire Feast continue to grow and ripen. We've had a few surprises this year…
On Thursday 13 July, The Association Les Trois Rivières in Chalabre, France, organised its first citizen science project of 2023 in collaboration with Earthwatch. We wanted to collect data ahead of the big citizen science project taking place on 14th September as part of the River Festival…
With the UK River Summit behind us, we are looking ahead to our next River Summit & Festival which will take place in Chalabre, France on 16-18th September 2023.
We have some very exciting workshops, food and drinks lined up for this year’s event so we wanted to share a little small snippet of what’s in store…
Last Saturday, 7th May was the second Atout Fruit Fete de Plants at Chalabre Station. Atout Fruit, a fellow Association based in Chalabre, plant, study, protect and develop heritage variety fruit trees such as apples, pears, plums and figs in the valley of the River L’Hers in both the Aude and the Ariege.
Joyous, collaborative and inclusive could be three words to describe our open afternoon to introduce Association, Les Trois Rivières at the Mairie in Chalabre on Thursday April 13…
Lac de Montbel in the Ariege was created in 1985 with a storage capacity of 60 million m3. Following the spectacular drought of 2022, the worst drought on French records, which left the lake dry, the lake is now at a fraction at its normal level for this time of year. Le Chabot are calling for global reflection and highlighting the threat to rivers from excessive use of water by intensive monoculture.
Through our wide-ranging, international press reach, we have been delighted to share the news that the River Summit and Festival is set to return to Chalabre, France, in September 2023 and, for the second year running, is partnering with local craft brewers, BDQ Beer Co…
There is no better setting for a celebration of our natural environment - of rivers and wild food - than L’Oasis. An ancient walled garden, L’Oasis is lined with fig trees and is abundant with persimmon, apricot, cherries, green gauges, olive trees, and vegetables galore. In every sense, food is at the core of the River Summit & Festival and L’Oasis will bear fruits of many kind for this year’s special event.
We are delighted to welcome Geoffrey Thomas to The River Summit & Festival team. Helping us to launch ‘Académie des rivières’, as part of the event, Geoffrey will be exploring and writing about the state of our rivers in the run-up to September.
We are thrilled to announce that the UK River Summit will take place on 13th June 2023, on Orvis' Kimbridge beat on The River Test…
Les rivières, la science et la célébration étaient les éléments clés du premier festival et sommet des rivières qui s'est tenu le 17 septembre à Chalabre, en France.
Rivers are the arteries of the land, supplying life-giving water to flora, fauna, and us. We live next to rivers all over the world. Chalabre, for example, is fed by three rivers; the Blau, the Chalabriel, and the Hers. But we are abusing our rivers and threatening their health and well-being.
Stay for the day and enjoy a buffet lunch from Arlette followed by an afternoon of exciting activities from local producers and experts from Chalabre and the surrounding areas…
Have you noticed a change in the water quality of our rivers? Do you want to find out what’s going on, and how to help? We’re asking local residents, families and students to join us for Chalabre’s first ever Three Rivers WaterBlitz as part of the River Summit.
As part of the River Festival and River Summit on 17th September, Artist Di Crispin will be in attendance showcasing an exclusive collection of her works focusing on Fish.
The inaugural River Summit will be held in Chalabre on September 17th 2022. We aim to discuss big ideas and the science around healthy rivers. International experts will gather to discuss our waterways’ global significance and we have representatives from France, the UK and Ireland confirmed so far.
We are delighted to announce that alongside Yannick Riviere, world-renowned French fishing guide, the legendary Charles Jardine is now also confirmed to be guiding at the inaugural River Festival.
Gone for a while are the days of lunchbreaks wandering down to Pret, grabbing a sandwich, a juice and sitting on a busy kerbside, watching the world go by.
We are so excited to introduce a special release from BDQ Beer for The River Festival: Le Blau (Grisette | 4% ABV)
One of our main focuses at the River Festival is the environment. A keen focal point to all involved with the River Festival is to upcycle where possible. We will be considering our environmental impact every step of the way from the charcoal we use to the lighting we use.
The greater celandine is found often along roadsides and banks of water. I found this beautiful clump by the side of the River Hers on a walk past the allotments opposite Lola’s Grove.
L’Oasis is a story that continues to be told of connections, love, abundance, and sky. Read here to find out how Claire Zambuni’s journey to L’Oasis took shape.
The bastide town was largely built in the 14th Century and nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees, whose peeks, oft covered in snow, draw your eyes to the distant horizon to the south.
We are delighted to welcome a new partner of the River Festival: BDQ Beer Co. Here, we not only celebrate this exciting news, but also - in light of International Women’s Day - the women behind the beer.
